The Bathgate boys were looking forward to this game and they started well. In the 10th minute, Callum G ran up the right wing, crossed to Owen S in the centre. Owen S deftly headed the ball past the keeper for 0 – 1.

The boys in blue kept up the pressure and in 14 minutes, Aidan ran through the centre and passed a fine ball out to Callum G. Callum G, who was enjoying his roving role, hit a hard. low shot which was well held by the keeper at his near post.

Callum G was in the thick of all that was happening in the first 20 minutes. Shaun, ran up the left wing, past three defenders, crossed into the centre and onto the head of Callum G. The ball connected full on Callum Gs forehead and flew into the net for 0 – 2.

A mother fine run by Callum G up the right wing brought more joy for Bathgate. After passing 2 defenders, Callum G sent in a perfect cross which was just beyond Owen T. However his namesake Owen S, who was well positioned a yard further out, connected well and the ball was in the net for 0 -3.

Aidan, in left midfield, slipped a slick pass to Shaun further out on the left. Shaun cut the ball inside to Callum G who shoots just past the keepers left post.

Jack, who had put in his usual hard work in midfield, passed out to Shaun. The Murieston defence tried to play Shaun off side but were slow coming out. Shaun then only had the stopper to beat, which he did at his near post, 0 -4.

Graham, who was feeling more adventurous, came forward and released Shaun down the left. Shauns’ perfect pass is taken in his stride by Callum G, who slipped the ball in for 0 – 5.

In 27 mins Graham picked up a loose ball in midfield. He slipped to Callum S, who passed the ball on to Owen T just inside the Murie half. Owen T ran past a static defender and ran through towards the keeper. As the keeper ran out to narrow the angle, Owen T calmly chipped the ball over the stoppers stretched out arms and towards goal. As the ball came down, a defender tried to clear the ball off the line. The desperate defenders’ attempted clearance was in vain, as the ball rolled over the line for 0 – 6.

The 32nd minute brought Adam up the left wing and into the corner. It looked like Adam was trapped and the best option was to attempt to gain a corner. Adam had other thoughts, as he chipped the ball over the defender. The ball landed perfectly for Shaun, who ran through the box, round the keeper and slotted the ball away for 0 – 7.

HT 0 – 7.

The second half started at the same pace as the first. Callum G ran up the left, took on 4 defenders and shot at goal. The keeper was up to the shot and held well.

In 10 minutes, Daniel had his first real action. Murieston had a free kick around 25 yards out and just to the left of the box. The Murie striker hit a strong shot towards goal. However, Daniel’s positioning of the wall and himself allowed him to stretch up and hold the ball at his near post.

Two minutes later, Jack and Aidan combined well and sent a through ball to Owen T, in the inside left position. Owen T sent the ball to Lewis who drifted past a defender and drilled the ball home for 0 – 8.

The Bathgate boys had a fright earlier when Murieston had a free kick at the edge of the box. They didn’t learn a lesson and gave away another free kick 30 yards out. This time the Murie striker sruck a perfect ball, which sailed over Daniel and into the net for 1 – 8.

Minutes later, Murieston won a corner on the right. The ball came over, the Bathgate defence dallied and failed to clear their lines.  The ball was eventually tapped in and the score was now 2 – 8.

Murieston had a sense they could perhaps score a few more. The next attack from Murie found a striker with a free header at goal. The strong header was parried by Daniel. The ball broke to another Murie striker who prodded the ball goal wards. Daniel had recovered well and made another fine save.

Bathgate seemed to realise they had to up their game. They pressed forward, keeping the ball in the Murie half. A goal kick, in the 15th minute, came down at head height around 25 yards out. Nathan  ran forward and headed the ball back towards the Murie goal. Lewis was sharp and ran on to the ball as it landed just inside the box. Lewis then turned past a defender and lashed the ball in for 2 – 9.

Aidan sent Adam up the left wing in the 23rd minute. Adam crossed into the centre of the box. It look like the goalie had the ball safely in his hands. However, the ball dropped from his hands and Owen S was there to tap in for 2 – 10.

The scoring was complete in 27 minutes. Callum S slipped the ball to Shaun on the left touchline. Shaun carried the ball forward, towards the centre of the box. Shaun then slipped the ball to Owen S who made the most of another simple tap-in for 2 – 11.

Talking point: the loss of concentration early in the second half, which allowed Murieston some hope in the game.
