SCOTTISH CUP FIRST ROUND: Sunday 28 August, 2016, Bathgate Sports Centre
Bathgate’s passing game clicked into gear to take them into the Scottish Cup second round against a well-organised Harvey side. The hosts dominated much of the game, although it was their second-half display which really touched the heights.
Before finding their rhythm, the boys in blue had to find some resilience to recover from going 1-0 down. A straightforward cross was spilled by goalkeeper Barry and Harvey were gifted a simple opening goal, albeit against the run of play.
Billy was to have an outstanding afternoon and he equalised with a driven shot on the turn on the half-hour mark. The winger then won a penalty when he was tripped going past an opponent inside the box. David calmly stroked home from the spot to put Thistle 2-1 ahead at the interval.
The second period belonged entirely to the home team. Billy scored his second of the afternoon just minutes after the restart, and Bathgate’s short-passing machine then moved into overdrive.
A sublime passing from the edge of their own penalty area, involving Leon, Sam and Billy, produced the fourth and final goal. Billy’s low cross was clipped home by Bailey to round off an impressive performance.
