WEST LOTHIAN YOUTH LEAGUE: Wednesday 24 August, 2016, Carnwath
Injury problems and a sub-standard first-half display combined to hand Bathgate their first league defeat in ten months. The West Lothian side came unstuck at Forth Athletic and paid the price for a below-par performance.
After conceding a cheap goal inside five minutes, Bathgate found themselves 2-0 behind when a free-kick from distance soared into the top corner. A quick recovery saw Billy reduce the deficit to 2-1, and at that point Thistle seemed to have woken from their lethargy. However, minutes from half-time, a header from a corner deservedly put Forth 3-1 ahead.
Bathgate chased the game for much of the second half and dominated possession on a sticky surface which badly needed cut. Fate was conspiring against them, though, as both David and Dylan limped off injured. Goalkeeper John was soon to follow.
He tore a calf muscle making a breathtaking save in a one-on-one situation, leaving Matty to don the gloves for the remainder of the match.
Billy scored again and at 3-2 Bathgate were hopeful of an equaliser, but they conceded another free-kick before the end and Forth celebrated their victory at full-time.
