Our Junior team’s good pre-season form continued at the weekend with two well deserved victories. Saturday’s annual fixture against local friendly rivals Armadale Thistle was very well attended and saw the Jags regaining the Kenny Carruthers Shield with a 3-2 victory thanks to an Alex Lurinsky brace and John Stewart adding a third.
On Sunday, a youthful Motherwell FC XI visited Creamery Park to contest the Paul McGrillen Memorial Trophy. New signing Dale Millar was on the scoresheet with David Swan an Alex Lurinksy both scoring twice to help the Jags lift the trophy.
Assistant Manager Peter McIntyre said, “Although both of these fixtures were friendly matches, playing for silverware is always a good thing and we’re pleased with the weekend’s work. Everyone got good game time so match fitness is improving throughout the squad and we’re now looking forward to one last friendly on Tuesday before the real action begins up in Dundee on Saturday.”
The new squad have now won three of their four pre-season fixtures with a final friendly outing to come against Crossgates Primrose tomorrow night.
