JAGS STREAK CONTINUES UNABATED

WLAYFC Under 16 League 15/09/2013 @ Meadow Park, Bathgate.

The Jags continued on their winning ways which sees them sit proudly at the top of the league after a sixth straight league victory over a stubborn Blackburn outfit.

With the weather deteriorating rapidly the game was in some doubt beforehand but was passed playable before a sizable crowd considering the conditions.

Both sides opened offensively and instead of using the conditions for route one football elected to pass which was most commendable and suited the Jags down to the ground literally.

Blackburn seized the initiative and the lead when good wing play resulted in a poor defensive clearance being picked up by an onrushing forward who spanked the ball home for the opener.

The Jags were stung into action and proceeded to lay siege to the Blackburn goal which resulted in numerous corners and eventually the equaliser.  A Kelly in swinger was headed onto the bar by Dwyer  and fell kindly for  McGuire to force home from under the bar.

The pressure continued and Dwyer cracked home the second after wriggling through the defence.

A superb dummy by Dwyer from a McGuire pass saw Gibson run through on goal, and round the keeper for a tap-in and 3-1.

The Jags then proceeded to close the game out in the second half with their controlled passing game which resulted in one further score on the stroke of full-time when Gibson and Irvine combined for the latter to finish well for number 4.

Another excellent performance from both sides in trying conditions which again was well managed by the referee.

M.o.M.: Dwyer lead the line superbly but it has to be Gibson who was a constant thorn in Blackburn’s left flank.
