Bathgate went into their Logan Cup second round tie against Tollcross in good spirits following the enforced break the week before. Tollcross always provide stern opposition in what is becoming a regular meeting between the sides in cup competitions. Bathgate began the match in quick fashion, Coulter latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the Tollcross area inside the first minute, his touch took him into the box but he could only knock the ball wide as the keeper narrowed the angle when a goal looked certain.

The start seemed to encourage Bathgate who kept up the pressure on Tollcross who were playing good football from the back but any slip was being pounced on and a ball won 30 yards from the Tollcross goal resulted in Park and Lewis having a 2 on 1, Park pushing the defender into his own box as he advanced and with Lewis square Park shot but could only drive it wide of the target.

Tollcross began to push Bathgate back and had a couple of one on one’s between striker and defender in the Bathgate box following balls over the top, each time Mckie and McMahon were able to get a telling tackle or block. Tollcross had a number of free kick and corners into the box but again Bathgate were coping well with Clark mopping up anything that was coming his way in goal.

As the half was drawing to a close, Coulter scooped a shot wide from 18 yards and Pettigrew could not get enough power in a shot at the end of a flowing move as the both teams went in at the break 0-0.

The second half began in much the same fashion as the first, both teams having a go at one another without much in the way of chances, that was before Tollcross took a lead that may have just been merited on territory in the second half. The goal though was a disappointment to Bathgate as a throw into the striker in the box was not protected well enough and he spun onto his left foot and drilled a low shot into the corner.

At 1-0 Tollcross took control and could have added a second before they did on the 70th minute. This was just after Bathgate were denied a Penalty when Neil was impeded in the act of shooting 16 yards from goal, no award was given and Bathgate paid the price shortly after from their own corner were caught on the break, when Tollcross advanced on their left and the low ball across goal looked to be over hit but the following midfielder done well to reach it never mind direct it back across goal and into the corner. This goal effectively finished the tie and although Bathgate continued in vein to find a goal Tollcross added a 3rd from close range which was pretty harsh considering how even the game had been for the first 70 minutes.
