Match Report

Both teams fought out an entertaining draw in very wet and miserable conditions.

There was nothing of great note until mid way through the first half when David Swan did his usual jinking run into the box and laid the ball to the side for John Stewart to sweep it into the next. The lead wasn’t held for long as a Brought corner sailed over everyone for a simple header at the back post. Half time 1-1.

The game started brightly in the second half and both teams continually pushed forward on a pitch that was holding up very well despite persisting rain.

Bathgate took the lead again when Alex Lurinsky picked the ball up at the edge of the box and fired low to the keeper’s right. Unfortunately, Bathgate couldn’t hold onto the lead and a ball in from the Broughty right was flicked into the net from 6 yards.

Broughty continued to push forward but the defence and Mark Reid in goal managed to comfortably deal with any threats. Bathgate could have won it at the end when David Swan rose at the back post and headed the ball into the corner only for the keeper to get his body in the way.

Bathgate had another couple of good chances but couldn’t quite find the winner.
