Match Report

Bathgate Thistle left Downfield in Dundee with a point in a game where the draw seemed like the fair result.

Robbie Feeney opened the scoring midway through the second half.  The red hot striker made it 9 goals in 8 games with a deft finish from close range after a superb cross from Sid Easton.  Feeney had started the move when he picked the ball up in the centre circle before laying it off and heading to the penalty box.  The forward had not been in the game much up until that point having struggled on the heavy pitch but he showed how dangerous he can be when his chance came.

The Jags only held the lead for a couple of minutes before Downfeld hit back.  A free kick wasn’t cleared properly and the ball eventually made its way to a Downfield player who levelled the game with a crisp strike that took a deflection which directed the goal past James Penman in goals.

The Jags enjoyed the better of the first half with more possession but there weren’t many clear cut chances for either side.  Gordon Harris had the best opportunity of the half when he tried a turn and shot 12 yards from goal but his shot grazed the outside of the post.  Downfield’s chances when they came didn’t trouble the Bathgate goal.

The home side were certainly stronger in the second period and had a couple of efforts early n the half.  Jamie Clark came close with a well struck shot from distance before Bathgate took the lead.

Home manager Andrew Colley will be disappointed that his side conceded so quickly after going in front.  The Jags tried to regain the advantage right away and there was a flurry of chances but the game suffered in the later stages because of the increasingly heavy pitch and both sides will feel that the points being shared was the fairest outcome.  1-1
