WEST LOTHIAN COUNTY CUP, SECOND ROUND: Limefield Park, Polbeth
Patience and efficiency saw Bathgate into the third round of the County Cup against a well-organised and stubborn Polbeth side.
Although the top-flight outfit monopolised possession against their B League opponents, they found it difficult to break through Polbeth’s 5-4-1 formation.
Goals from Kieran and Bailey in the first half were complemented by strikes from Billy and Gregor after the interval to ensure a final score of 4-0.
It wasn’t until the 22nd minute that Bathgate broke the deadlock. Kieran cut inside from left-back and angled a cross towards the far post which bounced all the way through into the net. Bailey made it 2-0 with a clever finish high into the top corner shortly before the break.
Billy’s close-range header from Elliot’s cross put the visitors 3-0 up before Gregor’s turn and volley completed the scoring.
It was a controlled Bathgate display as they had to remain calm against Polbeth’s rigid defence. Sam had another excellent game in midfield alongside David, Dylan, Matty and Darren, whilst Ross, Sean, Craig, Leon and Kieran helped John in goal record a welcome clean sheet.
