UPBEAT JAGS DOUBLE THE COLTS

WLAYFC U16 League

The Jags completed their first league double of the season with an excellent win against a dour hard working Colts side at Armadale.
With Coach Kelly unavailable, stand-in Hughes took charge and marshalled his side well with one eye on next week’s trip to Edinburgh.

With a few key players nursing injuries Coach Hughes relied mainly on an attacking formation which would prove profitable after a sterile opening spell in which neither side could gain control.

The breakthrough came yet again from a corner as Davidson blasted into the roof of the net from close range after an initial block by the Colts defence. The Colts rallied but fell further behind when Forrest(S) won an aerial challenge to send the menacing Forrest(M) through on goal to finish adroitly for a deserved half-time lead.

Colts came out fighting and laid siege to the Jags goal but where thwarted by robust defending and two fine saves from Armitage to spike the Colts guns.

As the storm passed the Jags should have added to their score but were denied by some good goalkeeping from the Colts guardian.
With time running out the Jags substitutions proved bountiful when the ever dangerous Gibson grabbed a double. The first with a fine glancing header from a well delivered free-kick and then he danced nimbly through a bemused Colts defence after good work by Swan to shoot low into the far corner for the final counter although he was rather fortunate to remain upright after clashing with the physio during the celebrations.

Very good performance which augurs well for the clash with Salvesen and another clean sheet.

MoM: Hughes and Swan looked comfortable and stylish but Armitage this week for his saves at a crucial time in the match and overall performance.
