WEST LOTHIAN YOUTH LEAGUE: Tuesday 3 May, 2016, Dunfermline Academy of Sport, Pitreavie
ELLIOT, Bailey, Leon and Darren scored some spectacular goals in a convincing win for Bathgate Thistle at Pitreavie. The West Lothian side took time to properly get into their stride but the final scoreline reflected their overall dominance.
With some players missing through injury, trialist Craig was handed a start and wasted no time making an impact. His perfectly-weighted through ball found Elliot on the run with 20 minutes gone, and the winger lofted a beautiful finish over the West Fife goalkeeper from 18 yards out.
Craig then supplied another pass in behind the home defence for Bailey. The striker evaded two markers on the right and cut inside to round the goalkeeper and put his team 2-0 up.
It was early in the second half that Bailey attacked Dylan’s corner to grab his second and put the game beyond West Fife. They battled hard throughout the evening and perhaps deserved more for their efforts.
Seconds after coming on as substitute, Billy charged through on goal and slipped a pass to Leon, whose attacking run from left-back put him in position to convert Bathgate’s fourth goal. The defender was on target again moments later with his supposedly weaker right-foot, lashing Elliot’s cross home from 18 yards.
The sixth Bathgate goal of a very pleasing display was scored by Darren. He took an exquisite pass from Jay and slotted home a tidy finish to round off the scoring. Ross almost added a seventh after a strong attacking run, but the ball landed narrowly wide of the post.
There was another satisfying clean sheet in defence for the boys in blue. Goalkeeper John produced two fine saves during the match, aided by defenders Ross, Darren, Craig, Sean, Leon, Billy and Dylan. Midfielders Kieran and James also showed their competitive instincts and passing abilities.
